Miniature Como is a dollhouse that was built for the National Trust (Victoria) to pay homage to one of its most elegant and loved properties, Como House. Miniature Como is built in 1:16 scale, took four months to construct, and was made entirely by hand from an original design based on Como House.
The dollhouse is not an architectural model or an exact replica of Como House, but an interpretation of the house in miniature. Proportions and key architectural features of Como House have been studied and translated to create an object which is pleasing to the eye and legible in miniature.
Miniature Como tries to fulfill the ideals we have of the ‘perfect dollhouse’. Miniature Como is symmetrical and balanced, and all of the rooms can be seen and accessed easily. Miniature Como also showcases some of Como House’s most pleasing and beautiful features, such as its Victorian crystal chandeliers and marble fireplaces.
Miniature Como’s structure is made from pine and MDF. Interiors are made from paper, fabric, paint, and various woods including maple and Tasmanian oak. Some details of Miniature Como have been modelled from the originals in 3D modelling software and printed using a 3D resin printer. They are then finished and painted to imitate other materials.
