An ideal mid century home.
This house is the Lundby “Gothenburg” doll house model produced in Sweden in 1966. The house is in entirely original condition except for the lighting system, which no longer works.
Axel and Grete Thomsen from Gothenburg, Sweden established Lundby of Sweden after World War II. The Thomsens first began by making doll house furniture for their niece and then decided to begin marketing it. By the 1970s Lundby was producing in 11 countries and exporting doll houses and furniture to 20 countries. Just ten years later, they were manufacturing 100,000 doll houses a year. Lundby houses began appearing in Australia in the mid 1980s.
This particular little house was purchased in Sweden and shipped to Australia by an avid collector. Each room has been slowly filled with original furniture from the 1960s. Each individual piece of furniture has been researched and collected with the aid of the internet from all over the world, including Germany, the United States of America, Finland, Norway and naturally, Sweden. It took over 12 years to find all the pieces for the house.
The house is now about 98% complete to the original 1966 Swedish Lundby Catalogue, and is a beautiful example of the ideal mid century urban home.
