A charming, local house with a mysterious clue about its possible origin.
This house has, a now faded, stamp on the back with an illegible St Kilda address. It appears that the address may start with the letter ‘B’ - Barkly Street, St Kilda? Perhaps it is the address of the manufacturer. We’d love to solve the mystery.
This two-storey, four-roomed house has a central staircase. This design feature has appeared in some commercially built doll houses but most doll houses do not have such a staircase. Manufacturers or builders leave out the staircase; they are not worried about how a doll or piece of furniture will get upstairs. The space taken by a staircase is valuable playing space. Because a staircase was included, the front door has become an important feature and the front opening panels are not symmetrical.
This house has rather flimsy flooring, which has created a bowing second-floor. Perhaps the choice of flooring material indicates a lack of familiarity with the wear and tear that the doll’s house must handle.
The rooms in the house are wallpapered and the collector has decorated the house with a mix of furnishings.
