This doll house had its genesis with two gifts - a miniature china cabinet from my daughter and a tiny leather doctor’s bag from a friend.
“My Dad was a doctor and when, as children, we saw his bag on the bottom stair, we knew he was home. When Dad died in 2013, he left me some money and I knew I wanted to do something lasting with it. A doll’s house, with stairs to take the little bag, was the solution.
I ordered a large, bare basics, flat pack house from the UK and once we started putting it together, I realised this project was much bigger than originally envisaged! Building the house spanned six months.
The interiors evolved as the project progressed. Furnishings came from the UK, specialist miniature shops and Sunday market finds. The frescoes in the Salon are repurposed postcards from Villa Alba in Kew. Archibald Prize winning artist, Euan Macleod, whose work I collect, was so impressed with the house, he painted a miniature for it, which sits on an easel in the Gentleman’s study. One of my favourite things! “
